Airport Load Rankings and the impact of Weather Delays
What does the visualization show?
The chart show how the twenty four major US Airports perform & rank across below metrics for Domestic Operations:
1. Ranking on the basis of their annual domestic flight operations
2. How much they are tolerant to weather delays
Data has been truncated to showcase details only for a relevant set of 24 major airports for ease of visualization and scalability. X axis represent the set of 24 airliners and Y axis represent average weather delay in minutes or number of flights operated annually as per user selection;
it also scales automatically on user input. One unique hue has been used across the bars.

What are the user interactions available?
1. Viewer can toggle between the ranking on air traffic volume and their weather delays by clicking the animated buttons
2. A helpful natural logarithmic scale has been included for only air-traffic volume aiding in better visualization
3. Tooltips reveal values represented across Y-axis as per viewer selection (when we hover over a bar)
4. You can navigate to other charts by clicking on homepage
5. Viewer often needs to refer the lookup added on the right for airport IATA_CODE; an extra effort deliberately included to make us (The Fliers)
aware about these acronyms as they come in pretty handy for flight booking
What inference/s can be drawn?
1. ATL & ORD certainly seems to be the busiest airports with more than 120K annual flight volume
2. Busier Airports seems to be least impacted by weather delays (less than six minutes of average delay) while almost all of the airports having
an average weather delay of ten minutes and more appear to operate less than 500 flights an year
3. Better weather conditions (ex: ATL, DFW) and efficient air-strip maintenance even with longer severe winter condition (ex: ORD, DEN) seems to be few of the differentiating factors
4. With an average weather delay of less than two minutes and a decent flight traffic foot print; Airports along the West Coast (ex: LAX, LAS & SFO) clealry seems to be performing pretty efficient
