What does the visualization show?
The heatmap on the right show how the average carrier delay varies over seven days of a week and twelve months of a year. Data has been presented as is without any truncation.
X axis represent 12 months of an year or 7 days of a week as per selection and Y axis represents 19 airliners; note that the heatmap scales automatically on user input. A set of 8 colors have been used to showcase carrier delays ranging between 0 to 50 minutes
For monthly & weekly analysis 1-12 represent Jan-Dec & 1-7 represent Sun-Sat respectively.A color axis has also been included at the bottom for perception
What are the user interactions available?
1. Viewer can toggle between weekly and monthly details
2. Tooltip reveal average career delay in minutes when we hover over a cell
3. You can navigate to other charts by clicking on homepage
What inference/s can be drawn?
1. Average arrival delay seems to pretty consistent over week days and months for most of the airliners as we can hardly notice a huge change of hue across cells
2. Most of the Airliners expereinced increased average carrier delay on Saturday
3. From the missing data and subsequent checks it appears Aloha Airlines stopped operating after Feb 2008
4. Mesa, Hawaiian & Atlantic Southeast Airlines certainly needs to review their operations to improve punctuality
